Treasure Coast families are rarely short on phone numbers to call. Search once and the ads, hotlines and placement services arrive in a flood. They are short on someone who is not selling anything.

G3 Recovery is a family intervention practice based in Austin, Texas. Matt Gibson, a Certified Interventionist (CAI), prepares your family remotely and then travels to the Treasure Coast for the intervention. Hannah Gibson manages the case through admission and the first days of treatment. We are paid by you, and only by you.

Common starting points

A grown son living at home who has stopped working and started selling things. A wife whose drinking has moved from evenings to mornings. A parent recently moved to the Treasure Coast who is confused, isolated and mixing alcohol with prescriptions. A family scattered across states, unsure who should even make the first call.

Step by step

What working with us looks like

First

A real conversation

You reach Matt or Hannah directly. We ask about substances, mental health history, safety concerns and who in the family carries weight.

Second

The right program

We confirm a bed that fits the clinical picture and your insurance, whether that is on the Treasure Coast, elsewhere in Florida, or out of state.

Third

Preparation

Every participant rehearses by video. We trim each letter until it is honest, brief and free of blame.

Fourth

Intervention and admission

Matt guides the conversation in person. On a yes, transport is already arranged and admission follows the same day.

St. Lucie County courts and the Marchman Act

The petition belongs in the county where your loved one is, not where you are.

St. Lucie is part of Florida’s Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, together with Indian River, Martin and Okeechobee counties (s. 26.021). The Nineteenth Circuit holds court in St. Lucie County at the Fort Pierce courthouse and the St. Lucie West Annex. Under s. 397.681, a Marchman petition is filed with the clerk in the county where the person is located, and the clerk may not charge a fee to file it. For a family in Port St. Lucie helping a son who lives in Stuart, that means Martin County, even though both counties share a circuit.

The 2024 rewrite simplified who can start the process. Section 397.68112 permits a spouse, legal guardian, any relative, a service provider, or one adult who has direct personal knowledge of the substance use and the prior course of treatment. The court must hold a hearing within 10 court working days (s. 397.68151). If the evidence is clear and convincing, the judge can order treatment for up to 90 days with a licensed provider, public or private (s. 397.697).

A court order is a serious step, and it does not guarantee engagement. Our guide to the Florida Marchman Act helps you weigh it against a planned intervention, and we will give you our honest view on your situation.

Psychiatric crises run on a different statute. The Baker Act allows an involuntary examination of up to 72 hours, started by law enforcement, by a qualifying professional’s certificate, or by an ex parte court order grounded in sworn testimony about specific recent behavior (s. 394.463). After that window, a family cannot petition for continued involuntary care; under s. 394.467 only the facility administrator or a treating provider can, and the resulting order may run up to six months.

When a loved one cycles through short holds and refuses follow-up, the most useful thing we can do is have a voluntary option prepared and a family ready to present it. Our mental health intervention work in Florida exists for that cycle.

Psychosis, mania and the 72-hour limit

If it cannot wait

A life at risk tonight calls for 911.

Overdose, a suicide attempt or threat, or violence in the home are emergencies. Call 911. If the crisis is serious but not immediately life threatening, call or text 988, or dial 211 on the Treasure Coast. We are here for the planning that comes after.

Crisis help on the Treasure Coast

The region’s public behavioral health provider, New Horizons of the Treasure Coast, serves St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin and Okeechobee counties from its headquarters on West Midway Road in Fort Pierce. Its site directs people in a mental health emergency to call 211, 988, or 772.468.3909, and says its Mobile Response Team is reached by dialing 211, 24/7. Statewide, 988 connects to the 988 Florida Lifeline.

Above the providers sits Southeast Florida Behavioral Health Network, which DCF’s managing entity list assigns to Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties. In plain terms, the Treasure Coast shares its state funded safety net with Palm Beach County. That safety net is for stabilization. The intervention is for everything that has to happen once the danger has passed.

The picture in St. Lucie County

St. Lucie’s overdose numbers are better than the state’s, and it would be dishonest to say otherwise. Florida Department of Health data on FLHealthCHARTS show 72 drug poisoning deaths among county residents in 2024, an age-adjusted rate of 19.8 per 100,000, compared with 21.3 statewide. In 2023 the county counted 94 deaths, at 29.6. Every one of those numbers is a family that ran out of time, and a lower rate is no comfort when the person at risk is yours.

Sorting Florida treatment from the Treasure Coast

Florida’s crowded treatment market brings choice and risk in equal measure. Florida’s Patient Brokering Act makes it a crime to pay or accept anything of value in return for referrals, with penalties rising to a first-degree felony when 20 or more patients are involved. We take nothing from any program, which leaves us free to say no to one.

Our checks begin with the DCF Provider Substance Use Disorder Licensing and Designation Search. For sober homes, certification under s. 397.487 is voluntary, but licensed providers may only refer to residences that are certified and run by a certified administrator (s. 397.4873). FARR lists the certified residences. Our guide on how to choose a treatment center gives you the questions to ask, and treatment navigation means we ask them with you.

Getting here, and getting there

For the Treasure Coast, Matt typically flies into Melbourne Orlando International (MLB) to the north or President Donald J. Trump International (DJT, formerly Palm Beach International) to the south, and drives in on I-95 or Florida’s Turnpike. We pick whichever puts him in front of your family with the least friction.

The same corridors carry your loved one to treatment. Our sober transport team can escort them by car or by air, and our guide to interstate intervention logistics explains how we handle a program in another state.

Questions from Treasure Coast families

What Port St. Lucie families ask us first.

Which court hears a Marchman petition for someone in Port St. Lucie?
The circuit court of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, which covers St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin and Okeechobee counties. The petition is filed with the clerk in the county where your loved one is located, and Florida law bars a filing fee.
Who do we call for a mobile crisis team in St. Lucie County?
New Horizons of the Treasure Coast says its Mobile Response Team is reached by dialing 211, 24 hours a day. For immediate danger, call 911. You can also call or text 988.
What is the nearest airport for an intervention in Port St. Lucie?
Matt usually flies into Melbourne Orlando International (MLB) or President Donald J. Trump International (DJT) in West Palm Beach and drives in. Travel is billed to you at actual cost.
Our son lives in Port St. Lucie but we live up north. Can you still help?
Yes. We prepare the family by video wherever you are, plan the intervention around your son in St. Lucie County, and arrange travel for everyone who needs to be in the room.
Does treatment have to be on the Treasure Coast?
No. We recommend a program on clinical fit, insurance and safety, whether it is nearby, elsewhere in Florida or in another state. Since no program pays us, location is a clinical question rather than a business one.
How much does an intervention cost?
You get a flat fee in writing before you commit. It covers the assessment call, coaching for every participant, the intervention day and navigation until admission. Travel is at actual cost, and sober transport is quoted separately.
