A person answers

In South Dakota, the conversation gets postponed because the drive is long, the winter is worse, and everyone knows everyone. Another season passes. What changes things is a plan that already accounts for the distance.

We fly in, sit down with your family, and rehearse the conversation before anyone has it. Then we place your loved one in a program chosen for fit, and travel with them there.

We also work with families on the reservations and in the small towns between the interstates, where the nearest program can be half a day away. G3 travels to you, and we can start the same day by phone or video.

What happens when you call

From your first call to the first day of treatment.

Step 01

One confidential call

You tell us what is happening. No script and no pressure. We listen for the details that change the plan: the substances, the history, the risk, and who is actually in the family.

Step 02

We build the plan around you

We choose the model that fits, decide who should be in the room, and confirm a treatment bed that matches the clinical need and the budget — in Sioux Falls, elsewhere in South Dakota, or out of state if that is genuinely better.

Step 03

We coach everyone first

Nobody walks in cold. Each person rehearses what they will say, and we plan for the pushback so a hard moment does not derail the room.

Step 04

The day, and the road after

Matt leads the conversation and keeps the tone steady. When the answer is yes, travel is already arranged and our transport team goes with them.

When a South Dakota family knows it is time

Most families wait longer than they wish they had. The signs that it is time are rarely dramatic: a job lost quietly, a DUI on an icy road, a grandparent covering rent again, a person who used to call every Sunday and now does not. You do not need to hit a specific rock bottom to act. If you are reading this at midnight, that is usually answer enough.

An intervention is not an ambush. It is a planned, rehearsed conversation where the people who love someone speak with one voice and one boundary. We coach you through what to say, what to hold firm on, and how to keep the room calm when emotions rise. For help reading the earliest signals, see our guide to talking to someone in denial.

Coverage from the Missouri River to the Black Hills

South Dakota is two regions with a river between them, and we plan for both. East River families near Sioux Falls, Brookings, and Watertown often look toward Minnesota and Iowa for care. West River families around Rapid City and the Black Hills more often look to Colorado or Wyoming. We do not favor any of them. We map the options that fit the person, then handle the travel.

Ranch country and reservation communities add real logistics: long drives, hard weather, and limited local beds. We plan around all of it rather than pretending it does not exist, and we build the timing of the intervention and the trip to treatment so that a fragile yes does not have to survive a two-day wait for a bed.

Independent navigation you can trust

The treatment industry runs on referral relationships, and families rarely see the money moving behind a recommendation. We took ourselves out of that entirely. Because no center pays us, we can tell you plainly when a glossy program is wrong for your loved one and a quieter one is right.

What we look at is simple and boring in the best way: whether there is real medical detox on site, what the clinical model actually is, who the staff are, and what the plan looks like after the first thirty days. Learn what our independence means in this explainer, and how the tiers fit together in our levels of care guide.

Court-ordered treatment in South Dakota

Families often ask whether they can compel a loved one into care. South Dakota, like most states, has emergency mental health and commitment procedures, and the criteria are narrow and time-sensitive. We are not attorneys. What we can do is help you understand the landscape, prepare, and connect with your county’s Board of Mental Illness or a local attorney.

We treat the legal route as a backstop, not a first move, because a loved one who chooses treatment engages very differently from one who is compelled into it. Always confirm current law and process with a South Dakota attorney or your local court before acting. Our involuntary commitment guide explains how these systems generally work.

Family-led, nationwide

You will reach Matt or Hannah, not a call center.

Wherever you are in South Dakota, one confidential call starts it. We assess your situation and tell you honestly what the right next step is — even when that answer is not us.

The hardest hours in any South Dakota case are often the ones between a yes and a bed. That is where a plan lives or dies, and it is where families with the best intentions get stranded by a long drive and a decision that is still fragile.

We remove that risk. An experienced companion travels with your loved one, whether the destination is Sioux Falls, the Colorado Front Range, or the Twin Cities, and stays with them through check-in. Our sober transport explainer walks through exactly what the trip looks like, so no one is guessing on the day it matters most.

The trip to treatment, handled

Common questions

South Dakota families ask us this first.

Will you actually travel to rural South Dakota?
Yes. We travel to families statewide, including small towns and ranch communities well outside Sioux Falls and Rapid City. Much of the planning happens by phone and video first, then we come in person for the intervention itself.
What if the nearest good program is out of state?
That is common for South Dakota. We help you choose the right program wherever it is, then arrange sober transport so your loved one travels safely and accompanied to the door.
What does an intervention cost?

We quote a flat fee before you commit to anything. It covers the planning calls with your family, the rehearsal, the intervention itself, and the treatment navigation that follows, including the calls we make on your behalf. Travel into South Dakota is quoted separately and plainly, since flying into Rapid City is different from driving out from Sioux Falls. Sober transport, if you want it, is priced on its own. We take no referral fees from any treatment program, so nothing we recommend is being paid for by the place we recommend.

What if she refuses to go?

Some people say no at first, and a good intervention plans for that instead of hoping. Before the day, we help your family decide what changes if the answer is no: who stops paying for what, who stops covering, what the household looks like the next morning. Those boundaries are the real leverage, and they only work if everyone holds them. We stay in contact afterward, because a no on Tuesday often becomes a yes by the weekend once the family stops absorbing the consequences. We do not use threats or humiliation to get a yes.

Does insurance pay for any of this?

Insurance does not typically pay for intervention services, so plan for that part to be out of pocket. Treatment is different: many commercial plans cover detox, residential, and outpatient care at some level, and South Dakota Medicaid covers a narrower set of in-state options. Before you commit to a program, we verify benefits, ask what the plan will actually authorize and for how long, and tell you what your likely exposure looks like. If a program cannot answer those questions clearly, that tells you something about the program.

The next step is a conversation

You do not have to figure this out alone.

One confidential call with G3 begins it. No pressure, no judgment, just a path forward.
